Viden was founded in Hamburg by two people who spent years watching the same problem destroy competitive advantage across German regulated industries.

Insurance brokers. Corporate lawyers. Compliance teams. They all operate the same way: documents arrive constantly — policies, contracts, regulatory notices — each one containing critical information. A renewal date. A changed term. A compliance requirement. Someone has to read it, extract it, and enter it manually into their system. If they miss it, a client leaves quietly. A contract lapses. Compliance risk widens.

Janis’s story: Dr. Janis Meyer tackled document intelligence from the technical side. In 2018, a major bank brought him a problem they’d previously thought to be insurmountable. He spent years building the core technology, proving it in production, and eventually open-sourced it. Today it has genuine traction with real deployments, active development, thousands of commits and the foundation of which Viden was born.

Liz’s story: Liz Sinclair spent 10 years in business development and product strategy at Germany’s fast growing scale ups working with some of the largest technology companies. She saw the gap up close: the large software vendors build for enterprises with IT teams. The small agencies, the 10-person law practice, the independent brokerages are left with tools that are either non compliant, too complex, or so expensive they can’t justify the cost. She watched millions in missed revenue slip away because the right solutions were built without privacy or the mid market in mind.

When Liz and Janis met, the answer was obvious. Combine genuine technical expertise with deep market knowledge. Build for the businesses that were actually being overlooked.

Viden is the result. German-owned, German-hosted, built specifically for regulated businesses.
